Objectives
The class aims to give you an understanding of how computers work, but it is also a very practical class and we hope you will find it useful in solving problems with your own computer.
Entry requirements
What background and qualifications do you need to join? You need to be interested in the technical side of computers, you should have use computer for word-processing or internet, some technical knowledge is useful but not essential.
This 1 week course will look in detail at how Laptops work and how to fix problems with hardware and software. The course takes you from beginner level up to level 3, and will give you the skills to upgrade computer systems and to solve a range of problems. Some of the skills you can learn from this course are how to upgrade computer memory, how to add a hard drive or a DVD writer, how to replace a power supply, how to re-install Windows, how to protect your computer from internet threats, and how use devices such as webcams and memory card readers. The second half of the course goes into more detail and its more practical, so you can use this course to help you maintain your own computer, or as a starting point for a career as an IT Technician.
